Packing may seem like a huge task when moving home but it's important to get right in order to keep your belongings safe and secure in transit. PACKING TIPS

• When packing chairs, stack them seat to seat with a cloth or paper to separate them.
• Don't scrimp on removal boxes. It's important to use good quality boxes to keep your items safe from potential damage in transit to your new property.
• Fill your removal boxes to capacity – partially full or bulging boxes may tip or collapse.
• Pack heavier items into small boxes so that they are easy to lift.
• If you're packing items for storage then take a copy of your inventory and keep it in a safe place in your new home.
• Protect your fragile goods in bubble wrap and tissue paper.
• Fragile items such as crockery and glasses should be wrapped in paper or bubble wrap before storing – avoid using newspaper as the ink stains.
• Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in bubble wrap, marked fragile and stacked on their end.
• Wrap table legs with bubble wrap or corrugated cardboard before storing.
• Use wardrobe boxes which allow you to store your clothing on hangers in order to keep their shape
• Protect your sofas, chairs and mattresses with covers.

STORAGE TIPS

• Place heavy or bulky items in the storage room first to provide a good packing base.
• Do not place heavy items on sofas or mattresses as over time this could cause damage.
• Always place a protective cover over your soft furnishings.
• Lay a dust sheet on the floor of your room to protect your goods.
• Always fully defrost and clean fridge/freezers before storing them.
• Leave fridge/freezer doors open for ventilation and to prevent mould from developing.
• Make sure you clean any garden equipment and drain any lawn mowers of petrol before storing.
• Avoid stacking or leaning furniture against outside walls to aid ventilation.
• Cover your goods with a sheet to protect against dust.
• Pack seasonal equipment at the front so it's easily accessible.
