About Jarrow

Jarrow is a port town located along the River Tyne and is home to many important historical sites. One of it’s most famous is the Monastery of Saint Paul which is one of the oldest in the country, dating back to 681 A.D. It was the residence of  the Venerable Bede, who were a group of English Benedictine monks. The town developed into a major industrial centre, which was home to glass and chemical works and coal mining in the 19^th century.
