28 Days before the move:

Doctor / Dentist / Optician Find alternative doctor, dentist and Optician near to your new address and register you and your family.
Vet Find a vet near to your new address that can care for your type of pets.
Lofts / Attics / Garages Check the contents and dispose of any unwanted items (Hoults Group supports the YMCA - for donations they can be contacted on 0845 601 0728).
Local Authority Notify relevant authorities in both your current area and the area to which you are moving regarding council tax and electoral registration.
Hotels If you need hotel accommodation during the removal, book your hotel well in advance.

27 Days before the move:

Schools
Contact your children's existing school and let them know your leaving date as soon as possible. Contact their new school to confirm the start dates and any requirements.

21 Days before the move:

Home phone, Internet & Mobile Phone Providers
Contact your providers including your Internet account to advise of your change of address and the date you wish your new number to operate. Give at least two weeks notice.

15 Days before the move:

Pets
Make arrangements to leave your pets with friends or boarding kennels for the duration of move. Arrange for the transfer of your pets records to the new vet.

14 Days before the move:

Dispose of unwanted clothing Before any packing begins, decide if there are any items you wish to dispose of. These can be sent to a local auction or donated to a charity shop Hoults supports the YMCA - for donations call 0845 601 0728.
Packing yourself If you are planning to do the packing yourself, begin at least two weeks before your move. Label boxes with the details of their contents and the room in which they are to be placed at the new address. Remember to protect your belongings by using the appropriate packing materials and boxes. You can buy wrapping and packing materials from www.hoults.co.uk
Insurances Notify your broker or individual insurance companies: motor, household contents, life and any other insurance.
Parking Arrange a parking permit if required for your cars and any permission required for the lorries collecting and delivering your belongings.
Dispose of unwanted chemicals Carefully and correctly dispose of all unwanted chemicals such as old paint, car oil and garden chemicals. Your local authority can provide advice on facilities available in your area.

13 Days before the move:

Stocks & Shares Notify your stockbroker or each individual Company Registrar.
Savings Accounts and building societies Notify all companies that you have savings with.
Car Get your car serviced, particularly if you are going on a long journey.

12 Days before the move:

Bank Fill in the change of address and consider transferring your account to a branch nearer to your home. Don't forget any items retained by the bank for safekeeping.
Standing Orders / Direct Debits and Hire Purchase Give your new address to companies to which you pay standing orders, or with which you have a hire purchase agreement loan.

10 Days before the move:

Credit / Store Cards Fill in the change of address section on your statement when returning it for payment and also notify any card protection insurers that you may have.
Mail Re-direction The Royal Mail needs 7 days' notice. Application forms are available at all Post offices or you can telephone for one to be sent on 08457 777 888.

7 Days before the move:

Change of address cards Go through your address book and send out change of address cards. See our e-cards to send your moving home cards by e mail.
National Insurance / DSS Benefits Write to your local DSS office, giving your full name, date of birth and full National Insurance number.
TV Rental Sets can normally be taken to your new address when renting from a large company and your records will be transferred to their nearest branch.
Electricity & Gas Contact your existing energy suppliers to advise of the date when you will be moving, giving at least 48 hours notice. For more information contact Energy Watch on 0845 9060708.

6 Days before the move:

Pension Advise your Pension Provider of your change of address.
Library / Rental DVDs Make sure that you return any library books, CDs or DVDs that have been booked out from your local library or shops.

5 Days before the move:

Items on Loan
Return borrowed items to your friends, neighbours and children's schools.

4 Days before the move:

Milk / News Papers / Window Cleaner
Settle outstanding accounts and cancel supplies.

Water
At least 48 hours notice is required by both your existing and new authority to arrange for disconnection and re-connection of supply.

3 Days before the move:

Dry Cleaning
Collect any dry cleaning that you have arranged prior to moving home.

Computer Files
Copy all your computer files onto disk/CD and arrange to transport separately from the general removal.

2 Days before the move:

Home start pack
Pack a box for the delivery end to include, light bulbs, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, candles, scissors, tape, screwdriver, matches, tea towels, Cleaning materials cash and a note of important telephone numbers. Put this box in the boot of your car.

Items Not being Moved
Clearly label any items that are not to be moved to the new address.

1 Day before the move:

Fridge / Freezer Empty, defrost and dry out your fridge/freezer.
Washing Machine / Dishwasher Empty, disconnect and drain pipes, secure the drum of the washing machine with the manufacturers transit brackets.
Refreshments Arrange these to be available for the next day - remember your cooker may be disconnected. Also ensure that you have planned your evening meal on the day of the move. It may be easier to have a take-away or eat out.
Valuable Items Pack all valuable items such as jewellery, cash, watches etc in an easily recognisable box and arrange to transport separately from the general removal.

On the day of the move.

Pack Bedding Remove all bedding, and ensure that when packed, these are clearly labelled for immediate unpacking for the first day at you new home.
Take your final metre readings Before leaving, make a note of all relevant meter readings, and arrange for key transfer as agreed. On arrival at your new home, make a note of all meter readings.

After 2 Days in your new home

Driving Licence Complete section 1 on your licence and return it to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1BN.
Motor Vehicle Registration Send the appropriate section of your Vehicle Registration Document to the Vehicle Licensing Centre, Swansea SA99 1AB.
Subscriptions Notify all organisations/clubs/charities to which you subscribe of your new address.
TV Licence Fill in the change of address part of your existing licence.
Private Healthcare Advise change of address and/or research new schemes.
Inland Revenue Notify your local tax office quoting your reference number (this can be found on your payslip/P60/coding notification).
Premium Bonds Write to the Premium Bonds & National Savings, General Correspondence, Blackpool, FY3 9YP, quoting your bond numbers.
